MY STORY

SOLDIER. POLICE OFFICER. TRAINER. AUTHOR.

I was born in England and joined the British Army at sixteen. A few years later, I became a police officer. Both careers gave me an enduring interest in people under pressure, the decisions they make and the consequences that follow.

After leaving the police, I moved into specialist training. The work took me throughout the UK and Ireland and, since 2009, to the Middle East.

Living and working abroad, together with years of international travel, has provided much of the background and atmosphere for my fiction.

I have always thought cinematically. I see a story first as a sequence of scenes: a strong opening, shifting viewpoints, mounting pressure and characters forced to act before they have all the answers. That approach led to Bureau 7, a covert organisation operating beyond the reach of conventional intelligence services.

The series follows Lawrence Lander and Rivka Levine through assignments shaped by terrorism, espionage and divided loyalties. Different backgrounds and very different instincts make them effective partners, although rarely comfortable ones.

I write beneath the sun in the Middle East, where the next Bureau 7 operation is never far away.
